I. Homemade Heart

Imagine holding a heart-like device in hand. It’s wet and warm; it’s susceptible and fragile, it’s ceaseless while unadaptable. It is designed to beat at the same pace with the user’s real time heartbeat detected by the sensor. Through this device one can visualize his own heartbeat and touch his essence. Original model from Yoly Yin.

ii. Stomach.

I envisioned a stomach-like structure hanging over the city. This spectacle, delicate and vulnerable, directly confronts the cold and rough urban environment. I hope this spectacle could liberate people from the overwhelming anxiety and constant shock from the concrete environment, reconciling with their own fragile organism existence. My ultimate motive is to reach a balance between the fluid organism and the hard concrete. Picturing a city dissolving into one’s gastric juice, or vague streets immersing into the liquid inside the womb. For me, these images symbolize the real essence of being alive.

This museum is intended to challenge the traditional concept of narrative of the museums as a white box to display its items. In this museum, every item was deconstructed in to its trace, colors, shape or movement. All of these traits together, were well restored in the museum. In this way, the arbitrary relationship between the signifier and the signified was cut off, and this new way of display enabled us with a more subtle, polysemous and imaginative understanding of the items in the museum. A stomach-like structure means a kind of digestion and deconstruction of the items in the city, and then pour the mixtures back into the city.

iii. Ribs.

In this collection, I together with the fashion designer Dirty Baby try to make the cloth as an inteactive device and an extension of our body. My part is the dress IV and VI • I used the silicone air bags to translate the image of the organs. In the dress IV, the "ribs" are placed outside the body, transforming the rigid ribs from a protection of interior organs to a soft exterior membrane of the body. As an interactive device and body extension, it also challenges the disciplinary function of the cloth. The inner beating of muscles can therefore become visible from the outside. By externalizing inner activity beneath the skin, it demonstrates a kind of acceptance and celebration of the core of the living experience.
